After a long hiatus, Nokia has successfully come out with it’s first Linux based internet tablet called the Nokia N900. This latest tablet phone is a top the end product is significantly enhanced than the previous products in the Tablet series. Unlike the previous tablets from Nokia , this one isn’t too bulky or too hard to carry around. Released in November, 2009, the N900 is a quad-band GSM device but it also supports tri-band 3G network. Presently the phone will be available only in the colour Black and will include a full sized 3.5 inches TFT resistive touchscreen. What it also includes is a proximity sensor and an accelerometer sensor that will facilitate UI auto turn-off and auto-rotate respectively. A full QWERTY keypad is also available in a side sliding design. What the Nokia N900 packs beneath is a Maemo 5 operating system, powered by a 600MHz processor from ARM. Excellence in graphics display is enabled by the support of a PowerVR SGX graphics accelerator. Apart from a 256MB RAM, the internal memory available in the handset is 32GB which can be expanded to a further 16GB in addition. The phone’s capabilities as an internet tablet are strongly manifested by the inclusion of a Class32 GPRS and a Class32 EDGE. Also built-in is a Mozilla based web browser with support for Flash and web 2.0 technologies. The integration of Skype and Google Talk VOIP applications are also very strong additions in the phone. 3G service enables high speed data access with the help of HSDPA at the rate of 10Mbps while HSUPA is available at 2Mbps. Further more the device is also Wi-Fi enabled that allows it to access any local area network. The back of the Nokia N900 sports an impressive 5 mega pixel camera which is fitted with world-class optics from Carl-Zeiss. Also included are auto-focus , dual LED flash and a video light. The phone is also as versatile and powerful in it’s multimedia capabilities. The music player copes with a plethora of audio file formats that include MP3, WMA, WAV and eAAC+ while the video player can comfortably playback WMV, RealVideo, MP, AVI, XviD and DivX. The music can be ideally relished in the provided speaker-phone or a headset can be plugged in the 3.5mm audio jack. An Stereo FM radio has also been included that will allow users to listen to their favourite radio shows. Other notable amenities that have been featured in this Bluetooth enabled smart-phone include PDF document viewer, Photo editor, Adobe Flash Player 9.4, GPS, Ovi maps, Email, Push Email, IM and TV-out point. This indomitable piece of device is sure to make a lot of appeal to the people ,not only with good looks but also with it’s versatility.
