Learn A Quick And Effective Tip To Engage Your Audience
Learn A Quick And Effective Tip To Engage Your Audience
Often, PowerPoint users fire too much information at the audience. The surge of bullet-points will soon leave them exhausted and lifeless.
Certainly, we have all experienced such presentations. Nonetheless, we are guilty of committing similar crimes in our presentations.
Will we remained locked in or can we ever break out of this habit?
Perhaps, to start off, we could check out the mechanisms of our brain administrating the signals obtained from our external environment.
The human brain primarily constitutes the left and right brain. It may seem like a complex process. However, the divisions are simple. The left brain deals with logic and arithmetic while the right brain is responsible for emotions, beauty and imagination.
PowerPoint slides fully loaded with words will definitely employ the left brain. The audience has to expend energy to continuously digest the chucks of text alone. Just as we feel sluggish after eating a hearty meal, so the audience is overcome with lethargy after digesting large amounts of information and falls deep into slumber.
Are there ways to perk up the audience? Definitely.
How? Let them employ both sides of their brains. Don’t let either side feel unwanted.
Usually, PowerPoint slides fail to employ the right brain. We could rouse it by peppering our slides with images in order to appeal to the audience’s aesthetic sense. Let’s take a look at the successes of both MTV and YouTube. They use graphical expressions to evoke artistic feelings. It is no wonder that they fascinate viewers from all over the world.
By using visual illustrations, we are stimulating our right brain. We are effectively trying to interest the audience’s emotions, draw them away from the mundane text and lead them to our main points.
If you were wondering where to obtain royalty-free images, fret not. There are plenty of photo archives on the Web. For starters, you could check out www.BigStockPhoto.com and www.Dreamtimes.com. They offer images at affordable prices as low as US. You could download and use them to your preference except resell them. You would find that these images are of high quality. Use these images of high resolution rather than resort to using blur and fragmented images taken from random websites.
Ever heard of An Inconvenient Truth? It is a documentary film about global warming by Al Gore, an active environmentalist. Although Al Gore has perpetuated the same lessons on climate change since the 80s, his work only became popular recently.
The success is mainly attributed to Duarte Design which added its own flavour and revived the same message. Indeed, images and videos are a powerful force in stimulating the right brain. It is no surprise that this earned the documentary an Oscar. Evidently, images play a pivotal role in enabling us to successfully communicate with our audience.
Therefore, take advantage of images! Play with the audience’s senses and fire up their imagination! Try this powerful technique and you are well equipped in conveying an attention-grabbing presentation worthy of the audience’s applause.

Internet Marketing & SEO Basics: 2 More Tips to Effectively Target your Audience Online
Internet Marketing & SEO Basics: 2 More Tips to Effectively Target your Audience Online
The last time we looked at online targeting we addressed the concepts of day-part and events-triggered targeting. In this article we shall turn our attention to semantic and technographic targeting. Before we do, though, it would be beneficial to re-establish the importance of targeting your key consumers online. Every year 0 billion is spent on advertising, with around 2 billion directed at the wrong audience. Every marketing dollar counts and it is crucial that your messaging is received by the right people at the right time.
Semantic Targeting
Imagine the following scenario. You are distributor of a certain brand of scotch and you are looking to build awareness for the brand and promote your latest money saving deals. You advertise online and pay for certain keywords with your advertising bundle such that on various occasions when scotch is searched for, your advertisement appears. However, on one such occasion when your advertisement appears, the article it accompanies is about a young student who died from alcohol poisoning having excessively consumed scotch. To have your brand associated with this story is clearly detrimental to your advertising intentions. By using semantic targeting, this scenario can be avoided.
When selecting keywords, the technology analyzes the context of your specific words in relation to your motive, and then only allows your ad to be exposed on suitable pages. The technology can also ensure that your ads are not located on sites with any offensive or inappropriate content. Semantic targeting is said to increase targeting accuracy significantly, from under 50% to as high as 98%. Therefore, when placing any advertisements online it is crucial that you identify a digital agency with semantic targeting capabilities in order to ensure that your message is contextually relevant and featured on the proper websites.
Technographic Targeting
This type of targeting involves researching the technological capabilities of computer users, and finding out their online habits. It can distinguish whether a user has a high-speed internet connection, whether they use a certain type of operating system, or even a certain type of browser. This information is important on a behavioural level because it gives a marketer important information about how tech savvy the consumer is, and also on a practical level, it can help a marketer choose the right level of technology to target the right people. An example of this might be if your ad contained a video display; if a user does not have Flash player installed then obviously your efforts have been wasted.
Webcasting your live event – how to reach a global audience with your next event
Online video viewing has increased rapidly in the 2009. With over 100 million videos viewed on YouTube each day and interfaces such as the BBCâs âi-playerâ, 77% of internet users have watched a video online; 19% of whom do so on a daily basis. It is therefore little wonder that it is not just large broadcasters that are webcasting. Conferences, lectures, meetings and events are increasingly being broadcast across the web by businesses, societies and corporations alike. It is not only a new and exciting way for delegates to view or review the event, but a cost effective way of delivering your event to a large; or even GLOBAL audience.
Whatever the event or message you are trying to put across, an effective webcast will live on long after the session is over. It also allows you to deliver the event to audiences that could not attend, operate on a different time zone and can cut travel and accommodation expenses. With interactive possibilities, your event webcast can offer viewers a new type of advanced experience; helping to deliver your message or information.
If you want to get your event or message heard, a well marketed webcast is the way to do it. There is however a few things you should consider when considering webcasting your event:
Planning
Ninety percent or more of the work for a live event webcast should be done in the planning stages. If you try to foresee potential problems before the event starts, you can drastically reduce your stress levels on the day.
Particularly if you are producing a LIVE webcast session of your event, there are many things that can go wrong so ensure you produce a number of test session before the main event. The goal of any webcast should be a seamless, buffer-free video at a sustained quality irrespective of number of users. Ensure that the venueâs internet connection is up to the job and your server is capable of handling more than the expected viewers.
The most important thing is marketing the event and inviting users. If you are webcasting LIVE at a specific time and date, you need to ensure that potential viewers are aware of its existence and how to access the session remotely. This can be a heavily published advertising campaign or a simple email notification.Â
Recording
Depending on the type of session you are producing, you may chose to use single camera coverage of your event or a multiple camera, fully vision mixed set-up. It is very important to bare-in-mind that viewers attention span online is very different to that in front of a TV. Multi-camera coverage will add interest to the session by varying the shot and providing the viewer with a more complete production.
Any event webcast should have exceptional production values. A badly lit venue or poor audio will quickly degrade the quality of the event and viewers will lose interest. Live event video production is a tricky business and to get the best value for money, you need to commission someone who specialises in Live Event coverage. This will not only increase the production values of your video but you will be able to draw upon their experience in ensuring your webcasts goes without a hitch.
If you event features presenters with a slideshow, it is important to transfer this information to the webcast. There are a number of options of how to do this but by far the most effective is to use an interface such as First Sight Mediaâs âpro-viewerâ which allows for the slides and video to be viewed in separate windows on screen; providing the viewer with option to watch the video and view the slide at his or her discretion.Â
Delivery
It is important to give the viewer a suitable way of watching the webcast. This can be simply a link that opens the stream directly or a webpage with the video embedded inside. This allows you to keep your company branding and other suitable information around the video.
There are many options for the player that delivers your content. It is important to consider your audience when making your decision; if for example the majority of your audience will be watching on a Mac, you may wish to use QuickTime. Adobe Flash Player on the other hand is a diverse player installed on an estimated 98% of internet enabled machines. This means that users watching in large corporations will not need to contact their IT departments to help them watch the session and firewalls are unlikely to interfere.
If you are going to use something like the âpro-viewerâ, you need to ensure that it is easy to use by even the least technical of users. Consider a âuser-guideâ or even a technical support number. Â

Top Tips
First Sight Media have been providing Live Event Video Production and Webcasting since 2004 so have experienced most of the problems and successes that can arise. From this experience, my âFive Top Tips to Live Event Webcastingâ and points to consider if you try this yourself are:
Richard Belcher is Technical Director at First Sight Media and is particularly interested in the development of interactivity and web based video. His expertise in webcasting, video production and interactive media along with his interpersonal skills make him ideal for this position; working closely with clients looking to produce their first webcasts or directing large events and conferences for live broadcast via the web.
Net Pulling Tv Audience Away
The net is expanding its ’sphere of influence’ with each passing day. Recently it has ventured in a territory till now unchartered by any other form or genre of media. It has been reported that online video viewing is eroding the television audience gradually.
BBC/ICM recently carried out a survey in which they interviewed 2,070 people asking them questions regarding their time spent online and how is that affecting their TV viewing schedule.
Quite surprisingly 43% people said that they watch videos online, through computer or via their mobile phone device, and this time spent has eaten into their TV viewing time. Also, 20% people said that they “watch a lot less normal TV as a result of their online mobile viewing”.
Another projection that rings the danger bell for the television industry in future is that out of the rest almost 20% are very much aware of this phenomenon and are attracted to its appeal. It won’t be a surprise if they also deflect to the online brigade and ditch the TV!
But let’s not get too carried away with this, as this survey was carried out in a sample population. This is not an exhaustive survey which will inform one about the national trend but it sure is a sign to indicate what future holds.
Also, one needs to carefully observe what specific section of society is actually driving the segment. Like all gizmo related industries, online video and mobile video is more popular among the yuppie crowd (aged 16-24).
Amongst the young and restless, 28% watch these videos more than once a week, while the average of people watching online videos in the 25-44 age group is a meagre 10%.
With the British television companies going the ‘Yankee’ way of offering whole TV shows online for viewing and ‘vloggers’ getting hyperactive on sites like YouTube and Google videos, its not that distant a time when watching TV will become passé.
Though it still remains to be seen whether the Britons have actually moved over the good ol’ telly or still the idiot box is good to stand on its own. Let us hear on the Brit’naire blog what you have to say about this!!!
