There are three stellar books that have made a major impact in my personal effectiveness: 7 Habits Of Highly Effective People (Dr. Steven R. Covey), First Things First (Roger Merrill), and 4 Hour Work Week (Timothy Ferriss). I am going to share three principles from this study that I hope will make a huge difference in your personal effectiveness, as it has mine!
Principle 1. KNOW WHAT YOU SEEK. According to Dr. Covey, human beings are comprised of four different fundamental areas: mental, physical, spiritual, and social/ emotional. Take a sheet of paper, write down the four things, and ask this question: What one thing could I do, that would bring the greatest positive improvement in this area?
Next, identify the different “roles” you play in your life. Things like wife, husband, father, mother, daughter, member of a community, church or club, entrepreneur, cyclist, etc. Then ask the question for each of these roles as well. You now have a list of goals that cover every important area of your life.
Principle 2. DEVELOP A DAILY AND WEEKLY METHOD OF OPERATION. (MO). First, throw most of your long range goals in the trash. They’re meaningless. Why? Because they delude you into thinking that it doesn’t matter what you do TODAY. But today is all you have. Is it possible to reach a five year goal if you aren’t taking the daily steps to achieve it? Yet not everything has to be done on a daily basis, some thing are best performed weekly. For example, in the role of “husband” I try to have a date once a week with my wife. Weekly makes more sense than daily. But monthly isn’t near enough! Very few goals outside of daily or weekly make sense. So take all the goals determined above, and develop your daily and weekly method of operation. Write them down on a single piece of paper, and display it where you will see it often.
Principle 3. REDUCE AND SIMPLIFY. Think you don’t have enough time? Think again. You have just as much time in the day as Mother Teresa or Bill Gates. One major difference between highly effective and dysfunctional people is simply in the use of time.
Every morning, look at your daily and weekly MO. Start into those most important activities you have chosen, and stay on task until they’re all done. Do not let ANYTHING distract you from each item. And don’t multi-task. Do one at a time through to completion.
There are four things you will have to manage if you want to do this effectively: e-mail, the telephone, media, and other people.
E-mail. Many experts tell us that e-mail wastes more time than any other business practise. And very few e-mails are mission critical. Here are some steps to take in killing this time sucking, income reducing monster: 1. Turn off the “you’ve got mail” sound on your computer.
2. Only check your e-mail twice per day, once per day if possible. The best times are noon and 4 PM. If once only, then do it at 4. If you need to, set up an autoresponse letting people know that you are only checking your e-mail at 4 PM, and if it’s an emergency item to call you on the phone. When I started checking e-mail twice a day I thought I would miss out on opportunities or cause grief to colleagues. Surprisingly, within a week I was down to once a day, and my personal effectiveness was through the roof.
3. Be aggressive in eliminating e-mail, and be quick to hit delete. If you have dysfunctional friends that think they need to send you stupid “pass this on to 10 people and…” e-mails, politely ask them to stop sending them. Unsubscribe from mailing lists. Don’t feel obligated to respond to every e-mail you receive. The delete button is your friend.
Telephone. Do you feel like a ringing phone is an emergency? It’s not. Believe it or not, the world will still function just fine without you for a few hours. Learn to ignore the phone while working on your priorities, and let voice mail do its job.
Media. Kill it. Cancel your newspaper. It’s only filling your head with negative crap anyway. Stop watching the news, reading magazines, and celebrity gossip at your home page. Do not surf the internet idly. It’s a good idea to change your home page to a plain one without any media or news, like google.com, or a site that helps you achieve one of your major goals. Think you’ll miss out on something big if you cut media out of your life? Nope. Trust me, if a major earthquake sinks a continent, you’ll hear about it real quick.
Other people. This one you have to be careful with. What’s the point of life if not for the relationships we have? At the same time, if you implement these principles, you’ll actually have MORE time for those you care about most. The key is to not let others invade your sacred space when you are working on your MO’s. Use the “do not disturb” button, warn your family before you go into your office, and take care of interruptions quickly. That will help you eliminate casual, time wasting interactions, saving time for the important, planned people time that you create through being more effective.
The 80/20 rule dictates that 80 percent of the results are achieved by only 20 percent of the work. By using these principles you can eliminate the 80 percent, work only on the 20, and cut your work time down while increasing your effectiveness and creating time for those things that matter most in your life!

Anxiety Medication Effectiveness – Best Quality Gives Best Effects
Anxiety Medication Effectiveness – Best Quality Gives Best Effects
There are many types of anti-anxiety drugs in the market today, similar to the infinite number of pain relievers that dorn the shelves of many drug stores across the country. This might be better explained by the fact that no single medication can effectively work in every patient, humans are unique and have unique needs in terms of what responds best to their respective conditions. Just imagine a situation where the best medication for anxiety are required, you might often find this becoming a trial and error game to most patients. Doctors can never be 100% confident that the type of drug administered or the first dose given will result to the desired effect. With this in mind, it becomes quite difficult to say with certainity, what the best anxiety medications really are.
Its common for doctors to prescribe the two major class of medications for anxiety treatment. The ideal type of anxiety medication will mostly be a combination involving two or more anti-anxiety drugs and anti-depressants. These combined effort of two drugs works wonders in alleviating both immediate and long term symptoms. The concoction is therefore very effective in both short and long term use.
It might be worth to note that, while every effort is made by doctors in seeking out perfect remedies for anxiety, patients on their side can help a great deal if they adhere to a few basic things. Some of these measure will actively involves patients in their treament, and are as follows:
1. Creating time to read and understand the medication. Not even the best anxiety medication can work properly if incorrectly taken. It’s therefore essential for patients to be familiar with what they are taking, the duration of the medication, how it works and the time it takes to activate, because, while some medications produce an instant impact, others take time to show visible indication of recovery in patients using them. Having this information beforehand can greatly help patients accurately gauge the effectiveness of the prescription.
2. Dosage understanding. For the case of anti-depresants, its essential to take the medication as prescribed. This may include sticking to the dose amount as directed and also keeping the proper times of day to use the medicine.
3. Reporting complications. Most good anxiety medications do come with a multitude of potential side effects and precautions. It’s therefore important for patients using this medications to report any reservations they may have and side effects, this also involves medications that don’t seem to work as required.
4. Drug contradictions. It’s worth noting that some best types of anxiety medication may not combine well with other medications including herbal preparations and even food. This knowledge is vital to patients and will help them avoid potential contradictions in the course of their medication.
Most excellent anxiety medications are well equipped to enable patients of anxiety disorder deal with the symptoms that may prove bothersome. Setting about to find the best medication is largely a matter of personal circumstance and specific symptoms. It may involve some trial and error in the process, so fortitude is always a plus factor.

COMPUTER ASSISTED INSTRUCTIONS IN READING ENGLISH AT HIGHER SECONDARY LEVEL
Technology is an ever-increasing part of the English Language arts classroom Today’s teachers are developing new and exciting means of integrating Language writing and literature with innovative technologies.
The President of India, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, formally launched the India-U.S. Edusat Network at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 8th December 2005. His advocacy for a knowledge grid connecting educational institutions, research facilities and industries is the logical follow-up of a series of measures that have been undertaken by Anna University to ensure that tele-teaching reaches even to the remotest corners of the state. This will enable the knowledge users to have access to high-performance computing environment, virtual reality, simulation systems, parallel/clustered servers, and super computer infrastructure from any end of the grid.
According to him, the whole purpose of education in a country was to develop and enhance the potential of human resource and progressively transform it, into a knowledge society. Every Nation wants to produce students who ultimately become the knowledge workers in their own economy to be global citizens. In the 21st Century, the need for competitiveness, in the field of Higher Education knows no bounds. In the words of Dr.Kalam, “The competitiveness is powered by knowledge power. Knowledge power is powered by innovation. Innovation is powered by science and technology and technology is powered by resource investment”. (The Hindu, Friday, December 9, 2005).
The progress and growth of Technology in Higher Education is significant and it can be measured in terms of the excellent output in research – teaching – research cycle leading to societal transformation. Gartner has projected that the total Indian enterprise IT spending (not including consumer IT spend) including hardware, software, telecommunications and IT services will reach Rs. 1,903 billion in 2006, growing at a compounded annual growth rate (GAGR) of 20.8 per cent from 2004 to 2009. The aim of this paper is to focus on the ‘Impact of Technology on Teaching and Learning in Higher Education’.
Education is facing a significant challenge in preparing students and teachers for future” knowledge based society”. In recent years the educational access to digital information and communication technology (ICT) has grown dramatically. ICTs are quickly becoming more accessible, like computer, internet and WWW. ICTs are not single technology but it is a combination of hardware, software, media and delivery systems. ICT can influence much in developing teaching and learning environment in the following ways, which is quite different from older technologies.
Integration of multiple media : into single educational application.
Interactive and include the capacity to control, manipulate and contribute to information learning environment.
They are flexible offering freedom from rigid scheduling and from barriers of time and location.
Through connectivity they provide access to every other person on the planet who has a internet account, to hundreds and thousands of information archives and to million of web-pages.
Because of these differences, the teaching and learning environment finds new frontiers and educators are finding powerful new ways to integrate digital ICT into the curricula at the higher education levels, all over the world. Of course India is not an exception.
The various information and Communication technological tools such as web resources, educational CDs, computers, multimedia etc find place in teaching, learning, research, administration and data management. These ICT tolls have changed the learning styles of the students. Learning in the higher education level is not simply knowledge acquisition but knowledge ‘managing’ and knowledge ‘creating’. Hence the present study attempts to find out the impact of ICT tools in the learning style, and awareness about these tools among graduate and postgraduate students, their attitude towards the integration of these tools in the learning process which enables the educational planners and policy makers to update or modify the present curriculum and methodology of teaching.
The impact of Technology on teaching and learning in Higher Education has enhanced students’ achievement in mastering the following skills.
Basic Skills Instruction
Computer assisted instruction to drill
Multi-media software – teach to a variety of learning styles.
Videodiscs – strengthen basic skills.
Video and audio technologies – bring material to life.
Distance learning –at least as effective as traditional methods of instruction.
All forms – develop new skills related to use of technology itself, necessary in workplace.
A five-year report (1987-1992) by the Sacramento School District in California found that students using multimedia and telecommunications showed improved attitudes toward reading, social studies, and science and became more active and independent in learning. Some also showed improved reading scores.
Whether Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) can improve reading achievement of students has been a crucial question addressed by studies in the past. Many research studies reveled that Computer Assisted Instruction does have a positive effect on reading achievement. Although the effects of CAI in many studies were not homogeneous there seems to be no particular study characteristic that might have caused the heterogenity.
There is general agreement that reading is essential to success in our society. The ability to read is highly valued and important for social and economic advancement. The consensus supports the belief that reading is fundamental.
Most children learn to read fairly well. However there are children whose educational concerns are at risk because they do not read well enough to ensure understanding or to meet the demands of an increasingly competitive economy and changing demographics. It is the opinion of educators that not all of the children in schools are learning to read as well as they should. Many of them are experiencing serious difficulty in learning to read and as they progress through the grades they continue to lag in reading achievement.
Computer assisted instruction (CAI) is among the range of strategies being used to improve students achievement in school subjects including reading. Programs for CAI have come a long way since they were first developed over two decades ago. These programs tutor and drill students diagnose problems, keep records of students progress, and present material in print and other manifestations. It is believed that they reflect what good teachers do in the class room.
Students are expected to benefit from CAI. Among the benefits that have been expected are better and more comfortable learning for students since they learn at their own pace and convenience; opportunities to work with vastly superior materials and more sophisticated problems; personalized tutoring; automatic measurement of progress, and others.
Teachers as well are expected to gain from CAI. Among the benefits that have been expected are better and more comfortable learning for students since they learn at as they experience less drudgery and repetition greater ease in up dating instruction materials, more accurate appraisal and documentation of students progress and more time to work directly with students. With increasing advances in computer technology Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) is now seen by many as a method of providing relevant instruction for large number of students.
Learning from computers encompasses approaches to CAI in which the computer is used as a means for transmitting specific subject matter, such as reading. Te flow of information is basically from the computer to the student with the computer presenting learning material or activities for student responses. The computer retains records of the student’s progress Through the course of study. Based on the degree of interaction between student and computer researches have identified three levels of CAI:
DRILL AND PRACTICE:-
The computer provides the student with exercises that reinforce the learning of specific skills taught in the class room and supplies immediate feedback on the correctness of the response. Used in this manner, CAI functions as a supplement to regular classroom instruction and may be especially useful when a teacher does not have the time to work individually with each student. Drill and practice on the computer may also motivate students more than traditional work book exercises.
TUTORIAL :-
Tutorial CAI provides some information or clarifies certain concepts in addition to providing the student with practice exercises. In this sense the computer begins to take over actual instructional functions tailored to the student’s individual level of achievement.
DIALOGUE :-
With this type of computer use the student takes an active role in interacting with the computer giving instructions in the form of a computer language so as to structure the student’s own curriculum. The computer provides information, exercises and feed back Dialogue CAI is believed to come closest to actually substituting for regular instruction.
The verdict for the use of computers in education seems to be in. As stated by the National Center for Education statistics (NCES) computers have become an essential tool in our society. Early exposure to computers may help students gain the computer literacy that will be crucial for future success in the workplace. Access to computers at school and at home allows students to retrieve information, manipulate data and produce results efficiently and in innovative ways. Examining the extent to which students have access to computers at school and at home may be an indicator of how well-prepared students will be to enter an increasingly technological work place.
Has computer assisted instruction CAI produced benefits that result in greater achievement for students in this case in reading?
Soon after the introduction of CAI educational researches began to develop evaluation studies produced potentially useful information on the effects of CAI their messages were shrouded in ambiguity. One reason for unclear messages was that each evaluation report was published separately making the total picture somewhat murky.
Another problem had a deeper and more serious nature. These evaluation studies were never exact replications of one another. They differed in experimental design and execution, setting and the type of computer applications investigated. To confound matters evaluation findings or results tended to differ from one investigation to another findings from different studies differed from each other with some studies producing contradictory results. As well many of the reviews are typically narrative and discursive in presentation resulting in their multiplicity of findings not capable of being absorbed by the nearer without quantitative methods of reviewing.
CONCLUSIONS :-
Alarms about a “literacy crisis” among young people have been sounded on a regular basis for more than a century. Yet as each generation of students matures, it is able to accomplish the reading and writing tasks necessary for society to continue. Perhaps then, rather than sounding more alarms, it is time to consider what anxieties, particularly economic anxieties, drive the perpetual literacy.
Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL) is often presented as a promising learning method. However, it is also facing some new challenges. Apart from answering the question of whether or not working with CSCL generates satisfying learning outcomes, it is important to determine whether or not all participants profit from collaboration, with the computer as a means of communication.
Students whose language, ethnicity and race are not represented in a school’s dominant culture experience varying degrees of success in reading achievement, resulting in persistent gaps in reading achievement. Culturally responsive instruction can help to close that gap. This is teaching strategy capitalizes on the knowledge and literacy strategies students learn in their homes and communities.
Experiments that assign intact groups (usually schools) to treatment conditions are increasingly common in educational research. The design of group randomized experiments requires knowledge of the intraclass correlation structure to compute statistical power and to determine the sample sizes required to achieve adequate power.
Some researchers have argued that the different domains comprising language (e.g., phonology, semantics, and grammar) may influence reading development in a differential manner and at different developmental periods. The purpose of this study was to examine proposed causal relationships among different linguistic subsystems.

Using Natural Effectiveness” to Sustain Strategic Momentum
Using Natural Effectiveness” to Sustain Strategic Momentum
Copyright (c) 2008 Gayla Hodges
Natural Effectiveness” revolves around your personal traits and characteristics. If we can measure how you work most efficiently and effectively (and we can), and then focus leadership around those characteristics and strengths, amazing things can happen. This is the core of our Natural Effectiveness” philosophy. It is about defining the way you work most powerfully and positioning you to leverage your natural strengths to meet your goals. You don’t have to figure out how to be someone else. All you have to do is be your most efficient and effective self, and it will give you tremendous power to lead, achieve and develop.
At Change Agents we measure natural effectiveness based on four basic traits: The take-charge trait The people trait The pace trait The structure trait.
Based on your highest trait, you will likely approach building and sustaining strategic momentum in certain predictable ways.
If your highest trait as a leader is the take charge trait, you might approach your team as the General. This is not to be confused with a dictator. But your tendency will likely be to direct, deploy and conquer. Remember, you can fight some of the battles on your own, but you will need all of your troops to win your vision. You are looking for and trying to inspire allegiance to the vision and the strategy, not necessarily to you, yourself, personally. You must remember that people provide the energy for your campaign. If you ask them to salute, it may make them tense and less energetic and committed to the cause.
If your highest trait as a leader is the people trait, you will automatically build a team. You will connect with people individually, in small groups, and corporately to share your passion and inspire them to want to seek the vision you outline or the future you envision. You will draw word pictures that explain what it will be like when you achieve the vision. Two things that are critical to your success are that you listen and that you take appropriate actions when necessary. Some visionary leaders have failed because they were considered all talk and no action. The key is not to let your enthusiasm overcome your good sense.
If your highest trait as a leader is the pace trait, you will likely lead through encouragement. You will spend more time encouraging action than you do in pushing for results. Your strength is your ability to stay the course. Another plus for you is the patience you have when things don’t go as you planned. Giving people permission to be human and make mistakes allows for creativity and innovation. Meeting deadlines can be a pitfall for you. It is critical that your team trust you. You build that trust by doing what you say you will do when you say you will do it.
If your highest leadership trait is the structure trait, you will likely use systems and processes as the highways to your strategic goal. Effective systems and processes are critical supports in any strategic effort. Remember: people need to know why they are being asked to follow a certain system or process. The best way to engage them is to allow them to create or redefine the systems and processes they need to achieve the results you need.
As you build your strategy-focused Naturally Effective” organization, you will want to engage the strengths and talents of every person on your team. The bottom line in using your natural effectiveness” to maintain strategic momentum is this: work from your strengths, employ and leverage the strengths of others, and that will help you sustain your strategic momentum.

Effectiveness Of Schooling In The Early Childhood Phase
Effectiveness Of Schooling In The Early Childhood Phase
Are you eager to jumpstart your childâs early schooling? You are right to assume that at an early age your child can start learning. His or her mind is ready to soak up new experiences and information. Since children are impressionistic, the right educational method and learning environment should be selected in order to maximize the effectiveness of schooling in the early childhood phase. Give Your Child the Edge Evidence shows the importance of education during the early phase of childhood is unquestionable. It is through education that a child can achieve his whole potential and be whatever he/she desires to become. Early childhood is the right time to spur him along. The effectiveness of schooling in the early childhood phase is also unquestionable, especially as it relates to the childâs personal development. However, it is correct to question the effectiveness of early educational programs or tools used, and how it suits the childâs learning style. Does your child learn faster by doing? Listening? Or observing? Researchers on the issue have established that not all educational tools for early education are equally effective in the advancement of development and learning of young children. It is safe to say that the effectiveness of schooling in the early childhood phase is greatly dependent upon the following: Environment, quality staff, appropriate curriculum & teaching tools, appropriate grouping practices, parental involvement, and enforcement of consistent schedules. Key Areas to Consider Studies show that long term benefits of early childhood education are only evident in high-quality programs. Thus, you have to look into certain areas such as trained teaching staff, the style of administrative leadership, curriculum, ratio of class to teacher, competency of teaching assistants, and rapport between parents and teachers. As a parent, play it by ear. Talk to the teachers and get the feel of the school and find out if the learning environment involves the children in meaningful and active learning. Find out if their program is developmentally appropriate for different age groups and different learning styles and temperament. Talk to parents of young children already enrolled to find out what opinions they have on the effectiveness of the schooling provided for their child. If you receive the answers you need to hear, then you may have found a school that can effectively teach your child in the early childhood development phase. In many cases, early childhood learning in a classroom setting will prepare your child for the future, both emotionally and academically.

Use Feedback To Increase The Effectiveness Of Your Study.
How can you tell how effectively you’re studying?
What I’m about to tell you can really turn your grades around if
you can get your head around it. Don’t pass it off as something
simple and perhaps not worth thinking about because I believe it
is one of the easiest ways to improve your grades if you bother
to make it a part of how you study.
Before I tell you what it is I want to ask you a question. Let’s
say there are two music students who want to learn the piano but
one of them is unfortunately deaf. Which student do you think
will be able to learn to play piano faster and better?
I don’t play piano but I would assume the deaf student would
have a lot of difficulty learning to play at all. You may say
that it’s obvious that if you can’t hear the notes you’re
playing, you will have a lot of difficulty learning to play
piano, but what’s this got to do with how you study for your
exams?
Well… imagine that studying is like learning to play a piano,
but, like the deaf music student who can’t hear how well they’re
playing and don’t know they’re hitting all those wrong notes,
you don’t know how well you’re studying.
Let’s take this a little further. If the deaf music student
spent a whole year learning to play piano but wasn’t able to
hear any of the music supposedly learnt during that time, how
well do you think they would play in the concert at the end of
the year compared to the student who had no hearing problem?
If you’re studying the whole year for those exams at the end of
the year and you have no idea whether you’re actually learning
anything (making music), then how are you going to feel when you
go into the exam to perform for the examiners? Pretty nervous I
would say. Perhaps a sick feeling in your stomach, or self talk
like “I don’t know anything” or “my mind has gone blank” etc. Am
I hitting a few familiar notes here?
In contrast, how would another student feel who knew for sure
that they understood and remembered everything they’ve been
studying during the year? How could this be possible you’re
probably asking. Let me explain…
What’s the difference between the two students in each of the
previous examples?
In one word it’s called… FEEDBACK
When I was putting together my own personal study system, I came
up with five different ways of learning. One of the most
important of these was feedback. It’s one of the natural ways we
learn, not just when we’re at school, college and university,
but in all aspects of our lives, from our professional lives to
playing sport.
Feedback is defined as the return of a portion of the output of
any process or system, to the input. In other words, it tells
you how you’re going and is extremely important in learning.
In a sport such as tennis for example, this return of output
comes from a number of sources, some of which are: your tennis
coach, the scoreboard, the spectators, and your own observations
of how you’re playing the game.
In music, eg playing the piano, you get instant feedback when
you hear a wrong note. The importance of feedback in learning is
obvious if you try to learn the piano with ear-plugs in your
ears!
In the sport of study, when do we get a chance to obtain
feedback… in the exam when it’s too late. I admit that some
feedback is given in tutorials and assignments, but this only
goes to show how important it is and that there should be more
of it. We need feedback for a number of reasons:
1. It gives us a way of measuring our progress.
2. It tells us whether we’re studying enough.
3. It convinces us of what we know which gives us confidence
that we’re studying effectively.
4. It tells us what we don’t know, thus identifying areas which
need more time spent on them and those which have already been
learned and don’t need more time wasted on them.
5. It helps us improve.
6. It gives us encouragement, satisfaction and motivation by
allowing us to see the results of our efforts.
Feedback is extremely important when it comes to fear and
anxiety which occur often before and during exams. They usually
arise from the unknown, in this case not knowing what’s in the
exam and also not knowing whether you have in fact learnt and
remembered all the information necessary for the exam.
As for not knowing whether you’ve actually learnt and understood
all your study material, any method you decide to use for
studying effectively should continuously provide you with
feedback on the effectiveness of your study.
By reducing the unknown in this way, the fear and anxiety which
accompany exams will be reduced, thus increasing confidence and
performance. There’s nothing more reinforcing when you study
than knowing that you’ve learnt all the material that you’ve
spent so much time trying to absorb. Feedback has been described
as the breakfast of champions.
So whatever you do… make sure that the study system you use
provides you with lots of feedback. Does your current study
system drown you with feedback? If not, make sure you get one
that does.
Robert Seiler is a graduate of two Australian universities. After a failure in his first degree, he developed his own study system which he used in his second degree with spectacular results. He won a scholarship, was awarded a university prize for best performance in a final year subject, managed ‘A’s in his subjects, and received a degree with honours. His site is at http://www.college-study-skills.com/studyguide.html

Effectiveness X Efficiency = Results
Effectiveness X Efficiency = Results
Effectiveness x Efficiency = Results.
The above formula which is usually used for high performance always baffled me. I often get confused with both the terms as to what these words mean & hence extremely curious enough to know as to what these words actually mean in management parlance. After going through some of the texts, books I could really gather what these words stands for and what is the exact meaning of this particular word in the context of the management. If both these words are understood the way it has to be understood & if you as a manager could percolate / trickle the instructions down to the people with whom you are working with, the results achieved shall be amazing.
“Effectiveness” means doing the right things. “Efficiency” means doing them right. Effectiveness and efficiency both require that you set goals, analyze your work carefully, determine your priorities, and always focus on the highest-value use of your time.
An organization which fails to achieve desired goal cannot be called either efficient or effective. Goal achievement may be stated as an objective index of effectiveness of an organization. But, goals (ends) with taking into account the process (means) will forfeit the very purpose of goal achievement. It is not, for instance, sufficient for an organization to have attained the desired level of production but equally necessary with what level of cost and quality. If the cost of production increases due to wastages and the quality deteriorates, the goal achievement will not reflect effectiveness of organization. It may be a case of rather ineffectiveness.
Thus, effectiveness is a continuous or an ongoing process in an organization. The effectiveness is brought about by the manager in the context of ever-changing organization goals by restructuring available resources, altering technologies, modifying climate and developing goal-oriented strategy of performance of employees.
On the other hand, efficiency, implying elimination of wastages is an important variable of organizational effectiveness. It will depend on proper management of man, material, machine, methods and money. All these resources being limited in supply, it is the manager prerogative as to how he utilizes these resources to optimal use in the least possible time. Needless, to mention that, Management of man requires proper selection, development, compensation, direction apart from proper structural design. Leadership may also pay the role of both direction and motivation. Materials management and machine maintenance are separate important areas of management which dictate the level of organization efficiency.
Effectiveness or otherwise of an organization is related to the efficiency with which the organization has carefully and skillfully studied its environment setting. Its programs and policies and strategies for growth and development are intimately related to the economic, technological, social and psychological environments. The organization is required to have an in-depth knowledge of the market forces, monetary, fiscal and other policies of the Government, the position of factor supply, the state of national economy, international economic milieu and such other factors which have an important bearing on the effectiveness of an organization.
Here, I would like to narrate a best-seller’s definition of organizational effectiveness.
A BEST SELLER’S DEFINITION OF ORGANIZATION EFFECTIVENESS
One of the most successful management books of all times is Tom Peters & Robert Waterman’s In Search of Excellence, published in 1982. The book has sold more than five million copies!
After studying 42 companies that Peters & Waterman described as well-managed, highly effective, or “excellent” – these included firms like IBM, Du Pont, 3M, McDonald’s & Procter & Gamble – they found 8 common characteristics that these companies had in common.
They had a bias for action & getting things accomplished.
They stayed close to their customers in order to fully understand their customers’ needs.
They allowed employees a high degree of autonomy & fostered entrepreneurial spirit.
They sought to increase productivity through employee participation.
Their employees knew what the company stands for, and their managers were actively involved in problems at all levels.
They stayed close to the businesses they knew and understood.
They had organization structures that were elegantly simple, with a minimal number of people in staff support activities.
They blended tight, centralized controls for protecting the company’s core values with loose controls in other areas to encourage risk-taking & innovation.
Any business organization in order to achieve their results has to follow the principle of economy. Economy in business means that you achieve business goals at the lowest possible expenditure of time and resources. Economy in your personal life means organizing your activities so that you achieve more and more of the things you want and need at a lower and lower cost in terms of time and energy.
In order to achieve organizational effectiveness, manager need to continuously pose himself the following questions on a regular basis.
1. What I am doing that I should be doing more often?
2. What am I doing that I should be doing less of?
3. What am I not doing that I should start doing if I want to achieve results?
4. What am I doing today that I should stop doing altogether?
In other words, as a Manager you start doing those jobs which you should do more often in a day & simultaneously start doing those jobs which you have not been doing regularly along with your other employees in terms of results in your work place. Conversely, you stop doing those jobs altogether which you are doing today & start doing less of what you have been doing.
THIS ACTION WILL NOT ONLY MAKE YOU EFFICIENT AS A MANAGER BUT ALSO EFFECTIVE. THIS IS A STRATEGY ONE SHOULD ADOPT IN ORDER TO BECOME AN INVALUABLE EMPLOYEE OF YOUR ORGANIZATION.

Factors That Affect The Effectiveness Of Photo Shop CS Tutorials
Factors That Affect The Effectiveness Of Photo Shop CS Tutorials
You might be aware of the fact that a lot of people offer various tutorials for Photo Shop CS. This is because of the fact that Photo Shop is the most widely used image manipulation program in the world today. People use it not only to edit their images for printing, but also for sharing over the internet. However, not all Photo Shop CS tutorials are effective in equipping users. What factors affect the effectiveness of Photo Shop CS tutorials?
Media – Sometimes, the method used to transmit the information has a huge effect on its effectiveness. Some Photo Shop CS tutorials today can be downloaded as text files.
Although text files consume the least disk space, they are also a bit tiring for people who are used to the interactivity provided by the internet. Text file Photo Shop CS tutorials can contain a lot of details but, unless they are made by good writers, tend will have the tendency to be very boring. This means that they aren’t as effective as video tutorials.
Video tutorials are better at connecting with the target audience. This is because of the fact that video tutorials can actually show people what to do instead of just saying it. This means that people will better understand the various instructions and thus, be able to do them better.
However, video Photo Shop CS tutorials don’t really give much in terms of interactivity. A great alternative to this can be found in online Photo Shop CS tutorials. Through the technology of the internet, one can interact with various people regarding the tutorial. This means you can clarify some key points and make corrections on the way that you follow instructions.
Some people, however, believe that the best medium of instruction is still by discussion and application during in-person sessions. This is the usual “tutor-and-student-meet-face-to-face” type of instruction. People find that this is the best although a person needs to invest a lot of time in this type of Photo Shop CS tutorial.
Content – Of course, different Photo Shop CS tutorials have different content. Some tutorials may focus only on teaching you about the basics of editing images. Others may teach you about using your Photo Shop CS program with other members of the Adobe Creative Suite. Whether or not a person reaches his or her objectives in taking the tutorial depends on whether or not the tutorial is designed to meet those goals.
Attitude – Of course, the effectiveness of the Photo Shop CS tutorial does not depend on the tutorial alone. A huge part of learning depends on a person’s attitude towards the subject. Even if the medium of instruction is boring, you would still be able to learn if you wish to do so. You also need to see whether or not you actually intend to get results from the Photo Shop CS tutorial. Results can only be observed through application and, more often than not, people tend not to apply what they have learned. Some do this because they might have lost interest in the program and are looking for others that they can use.
These are just the main factors that affect the effectiveness of Photo Shop CS tutorials. There are, however, more underlying factors that need to be adjusted in order to make sure that you get the most out of every tutorial.
